On the 5th August 2018, history was made in Belfast, Northern Ireland, when for the first time, representatives of the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI), the Gardaí and members of the European LGBT Police Association marched in their uniforms.
Although the annual Pride festival is now in its 27th year, this is the first time police officers, including senior leaders were granted the necessary permission to do so, in what remains a politically sensitive atmosphere.
Alan Baxter, EGPA representative for Northern Ireland described the day as a truly humbling and emotional experience and payed tribute to the courage of his colleagues from the PSNI LGBT Network who made the historic event successful.
